Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk (lukewarm)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 ½5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ cup mashed banana (about 1 large banana)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for filling)
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 large bananas (sliced)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (slightly warmed)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm milk in a bowl and mix with melted butter and sugar. Add yeast and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk flour and salt together. Gradually combine with wet ingredients until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth. Let rise in an oiled bowl covered with a cloth until doubled in size (about an hour).
  4. Prepare filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and sliced bananas.
  5. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle and spread filling evenly on top. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces.
  6. Place slices in a greased baking pan, cover to rise again for about an hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour warmed cream over rolls before baking for about 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before frosting with cream cheese mixture.
