Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • Vegetable oil for spraying

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain well and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, then whisk in the flour to create a roux. Gradually add milk while whisking until smooth. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper; simmer until slightly thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and mix in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted. Fold in the cooked macaroni until well coated.
  4. Allow mixture to cool for 15-20 minutes, then form into balls and place on a parchment-lined sheet.
  5. Set up a breading station: beat the egg in one dish and mix breadcrumbs in another. Dip each ball in egg then coat with breadcrumbs.
  6. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange balls in the basket without touching; air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown.
