  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade by whisking together 2 tbsp soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and salt. Marinate beef strips for 10–15 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil over medium heat and sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized; season with salt and pepper before removing from the pan.
  3. Increase heat to high, add remaining vegetable oil, and sear marinated beef strips for about 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this sauce over the beef in the skillet and let simmer until thickened.
  5. Mix sautéed onions back into the skillet with the beef; serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
